FCC Q&A Session

Objective:
Talk with the FCC

Overview:
The FCC is prepared to answering the following and more:

Topic 1
Maybe something more along the line of ideas for new frequencies that allow the smaller broadband wireless operators to compete with the deep pocketed telcos.

Topic 2
I want to be assured that a few of the UHF TV channels that are grabbed back from the commercial TV band will be allocated to ISM wireless data.

Topic 3
If the FCC is really interested in participating with WISPNOG, they should send an enforcement persion and someone who works with certification. We need to be able to understand what the FCC will and won't permit and be able to grill them with questions. I.E. "what should I expect when the FCC knocks at my door?". "If my setup matches a certificated set of equipment but I bought it from multiple sources is it still certified?" "What about using antennas which are actually the exact same antenna as is on a certificate but manufacturer B uses a different model number than manufacturer A". "Define broadcast as described in your rules - does it mean two stations hearing the same data? Do we really need to retransmit data which everyone should hear?" and so on.

Subject: RE: Followup from our telephone conversation last week - WISPNOG symposium in Chicago

Charles:

I wanted to get back to you in light of the fact that the conference dates are not too long from now. Given the topics that you have asked to be addressed, Joe Dichoso, from our laboratory, would be available to represent the FCC at WISPNOG.

Feel free to give me a call to follow up.

Thanks,
Lauren

Hello Charles,
It looks like you can contact James Roop in our Enforcement Bureau from our Chicago Office. He could handle questions on enforcement while I could handle recent and future rulemakings that may effect WISPs. I've also copied him on this e-mail.

Regards,
Joe
